How to Fix HMS 0700-7000-0002-0007: AMS Filament Swap Timeout

Bambu Lab HMS error code 0700-7000-0002-0007 is an AMS filament swap timeout in the 0700-7000 filament management subgroup. Suffix 0002-0007 indicates that a filament swap operation — the combined sequence of unloading the current filament and loading the next — exceeded its time limit and was aborted by the firmware.

What the Error Means

Filament swaps have a defined maximum duration. If the swap does not complete within this window, the printer aborts the operation to avoid getting stuck in an indefinite waiting state mid-print. A timeout almost always indicates that one phase of the swap — either retraction of the old filament or loading of the new — took significantly longer than expected. This points to mechanical issues: a slow AMS motor, high friction in the Bowden path, a filament tip that is difficult to thread, or a nozzle that required extra time to heat before the filament could pass through.

Step-by-Step Fix

  1. When a swap timeout occurs, first manually complete any pending filament state: confirm whether the old filament is fully retracted into the AMS or still partially in the Bowden tube.
  2. If the old filament is still in the path, manually retract it using the AMS manual control options.
  3. Trim the filament tip on the new spool cleanly before attempting to reload.
  4. Inspect the Bowden tube for increased friction — manually push a test length of filament through to confirm smooth passage.
  5. Reduce print speed to give more time between filament change events. Very high print speeds with frequent color changes provide a narrow window for swaps to complete.
  6. Check the nozzle heatup time — if the nozzle was at room temperature when the swap started, the timeout may have been consumed waiting for the nozzle to reach extrusion temperature. Enabling pre-heating in the slicer can reduce this wait.
  7. After addressing the root cause, resume the print using print recovery if the printer supports it.

Parts Required

  • No replacement parts are typically required — basic tools only
  • PTFE tube replacement if friction testing reveals degradation
