How to Fix HMS 0700-4000-0002-0001: AMS Filament Detection Error

Bambu Lab HMS error code 0700-4000-0002-0001 falls within the 0700-4000 AMS filament detection subgroup. The AMS uses optical sensors at key points in the filament path to confirm filament presence and movement. This error indicates one of these detection sensors is reporting an unexpected state.

What the Error Means

The 0700-4000 subgroup covers filament detection sensors within the AMS. Suffix 0002-0001 indicates a general detection anomaly — the sensor is either reporting filament presence when none is loaded, or reporting absence when filament is present. False presence readings are often caused by debris in the optical sensor path. False absence readings can result from a dirty sensor lens, a transparent or reflective filament color that the sensor does not detect reliably, or a sensor that has physically shifted out of alignment.

Step-by-Step Fix

  1. Remove all filament from the affected AMS slot and inspect the slot’s optical sensor window. A tiny lens is visible on one wall of the filament channel.
  2. Use a dry cotton swab or compressed air to clean the sensor lens. Filament dust, especially from dark or matte filaments, can coat the lens and cause false readings.
  3. Reload the filament and observe whether the sensor now correctly detects its presence (shown in the filament slot status on the printer screen).
  4. If the sensor falsely detects a transparent filament, try loading the filament more slowly so the sensor has time to detect its presence as it passes the detection point.
  5. Check the filament is routed correctly through the slot — if the filament is riding along one side of the channel and missing the sensor beam, reposition it.
  6. Power cycle the AMS and printer to reset the sensor state.
  7. If the sensor remains unreliable after cleaning and repositioning, the optical emitter or receiver may have degraded.

Parts Required

  • Replacement AMS slot sensor if cleaning does not resolve the fault
