How to Fix HMS 0300-0800-0001-0003: Extruder Motor Error

Bambu Lab HMS error code 0300-0800-0001-0003 falls within the 0300-0800 extruder subsystem group. The extruder motor drives filament into the hotend, and this error indicates the printer detected a problem with the extruder motor or its encoder/tachometer feedback — the motor either stalled, slipped, or returned anomalous position data.

What the Error Means

The extruder on Bambu Lab printers is equipped with feedback to detect under-extrusion or extruder motor stalls. Suffix 0001-0003 in the 0300-0800 group indicates a motion or feedback anomaly — the extruder did not move as commanded, or its feedback diverged from expectations. Common causes include a clogged nozzle creating back-pressure that stalls the motor, a worn or contaminated extruder drive gear that loses grip on the filament, a loose motor connector, or a failed motor bearing.

Step-by-Step Fix

  1. Power off the printer and manually release the extruder tension lever (if present on your model) to unload the filament path.
  2. Inspect the extruder drive gear for embedded filament debris. Filament dust packed into the gear teeth reduces grip and causes slipping. Use a small stiff brush or a toothpick to clean the teeth thoroughly.
  3. Check for a partial or full nozzle clog. Attempt a cold pull: heat the nozzle to 90 °C, push filament in slightly, then pull it out firmly while cooling. A partial clog shows as a narrowed or deformed tip on the pulled filament.
  4. Reseat the extruder motor connector at the toolhead PCB. A loose connection causes intermittent motor faults.
  5. Run the printer’s filament load/unload routine and listen for the extruder — it should sound smooth and consistent, not clicking or grinding.
  6. If the extruder clicks repeatedly under normal printing pressure, the nozzle clog is likely more severe and requires a full heat clean or nozzle replacement.
  7. Replace the extruder motor only if none of the above steps resolve persistent stall detection events.

Parts Required

  • Replacement nozzle if a clog cannot be cleared
  • Extruder drive gear if teeth are worn smooth
  • Extruder motor if bearing failure is confirmed
